A contentious moment during Saturday’s WNBA matchup between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky has drawn commentary from Florida’s top legal official. DiJonai Carrington of the Sky received a Flagrant 2 foul for what appeared to be a clothesline maneuver against the Fever’s Sophie Cunningham, prompting widespread reaction across social media and sports circles.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier took to X to offer his perspective on the incident, asserting that such a play would not occur within the state’s borders. His remarks touched on the notable absence of a WNBA franchise in Florida, a situation that has persisted for more than two decades.

The Sunshine State previously hosted two professional women’s basketball teams. The Orlando Miracle operated from 1999 to 2002 before relocating to Connecticut, where the franchise now competes as the Connecticut Sun. Additionally, the Miami Sol played in the league from 2000 to 2002, marking another short-lived presence in the state.
