Authorities are investigating a fraud scheme in which an unidentified man allegedly deceived three separate individuals into providing security deposits for an apartment that did not exist. The scheme centered on a property purportedly located near the Botanical Garden on Marion Avenue in the Bronx.
All three victims reported falling victim to the scam during May, handing over deposits to the suspect under the premise of securing the rental unit. Each person believed they were making a legitimate transaction for housing in the area.
Investigators continue working to identify the individual responsible for the apparent rental fraud scheme. The case highlights ongoing concerns about deposit-related scams targeting prospective tenants in New York City.
