Republican Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma has delivered a pointed rebuke to Pornhub, asserting in a Friday letter that the adult content platform places profit margins ahead of child welfare by actively campaigning against age-verification statutes. Lankford’s correspondence, reviewed by Fox News Digital, targets the company’s July 28 communication to state legislators urging them to reject such verification requirements, contending Pornhub prioritizes maintaining its user base over safeguarding young people from sexually explicit material.
Writing to Solomon Friedman, a compliance partner at Ethical Capital Partners—the private equity firm that controls MindGeek, Pornhub’s parent company now operating under the Aylo brand—Lankford stated bluntly that the platform “preys on children” and exposes them to abusive content without meaningful safeguards. He dismissed the company’s assertion that age-verification laws pose privacy risks, noting that many state statutes mandate immediate deletion of personal information once verification concludes.
Lankford cited research from the American Psychological Association showing boys encounter pornography by age 13.37 on average, with some children exposed as young as five years old. He referenced a Supreme Court ruling in Free Speech Coalition vs. Paxton that upheld age-verification laws as constitutional and affirmed states’ authority to shield minors from pornographic material.
Pornhub’s July 28 letter to state lawmakers, published by the Tallahassee Democrat, characterized age-verification requirements as ineffective and unenforceable, claiming such measures increase online risks for all users. The letter was distributed as at least 25 states, including Florida, have implemented similar age-verification mandates.
Lankford concluded his statement by calling age verification “one simple step” platforms can adopt to protect children, characterizing parental efforts to shield minors from online harm as facing significant obstacles in the current digital landscape. Fox News Digital sought comment from both Friedman and Pornhub representatives.
