Hossler, ranked 122nd in the FedEx Cup standings, must secure victory to advance to next week’s playoff opener at Sedgefield Country Club.
Ben James, a Virginia graduate and top-ranked prospect in the PGA Tour University program, trails by one stroke after a 62. James made eagle on both par-5 holes but finished with back-to-back bogeys, missing crucial 6-foot par putts down the stretch. He requires a tournament victory to crack the top 70 and avoid missing the postseason in his professional debut.
Jackson Koivun, who earned his tour card through the accelerated PGA Tour University program and won the 3M Open two weeks ago, shot 67 and sits at 70th in the FedEx Cup standings—currently the final qualifying position. Sahith Theegala, safely positioned at 43rd, posted an unusual 62 with eight birdies and one bogey on the front nine before recording only pars on the back nine until a closing birdie.
Eric Cole shot 63 to sit in fourth place, while five of the six players at 64 remain outside the top 70 cutline. Brooks Koepka, returning to the PGA Tour after four years on the LIV Golf circuit, carded 67 and needs a strong finish to reach the postseason. Matti Schmid, ranked 67th in the FedEx Cup, joined the 64-shooters seeking to solidify his playoff positioning over the final three rounds.
