Aaron Donald, who stepped away from the Los Angeles Rams in 2024, may be heading back to the field sooner than expected. The Hall of Fame-caliber defensive lineman participated in a formal, 45-minute workout with team personnel on Wednesday, signaling he is seriously evaluating a potential comeback with the organization that drafted him.

Donald’s flirtation with returning stems largely from the Rams’ roster strength heading into the upcoming season. The team reached the NFC Championship game last year and has since bolstered its defensive and offensive firepower by acquiring All-Pro defensive lineman Myles Garrett, Pro Bowl cornerback Trent McDuffie, and retaining quarterback Matthew Stafford, the reigning league MVP.

The workout itself was significant enough that the Rams reported it to the NFL, and it appeared on the league’s official daily transaction wire released at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Multiple league sources confirmed Donald wore full equipment during the session, which was designed primarily to allow him to assess his own physical readiness rather than to convince the Rams of his capabilities—the organization has already made clear Donald can return if he wishes.
