Houston Astros outfielder Taylor Trammell experienced an unusual moment of embarrassment during Monday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays when he circled the bases after hitting what he believed was a home run, only to discover the ball had been caught at the wall. Trammell connected on a fastball in the seventh inning at what is officially known as Daikin Park and immediately began his trip around the bases, confident he had his sixth home run of the season.
The left-handed batter touched each base methodically before stepping on home plate, offering thanks and heading toward the dugout expecting congratulations from his teammates. Instead, he found the dugout eerily quiet, as the ball had been hauled in by a Blue Jays outfielder near the wall, negating what would have been a score.
Despite the awkward moment, Trammell bounced back the following evening by launching a three-run home run that cleared the wall in legitimate fashion. The redemption hit came after Monday’s loss to Toronto, giving the outfielder a more positive memory from the series and a reminder that his 24 career home runs over seven major league seasons continue to come.
