The DeLand Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for a 17-year-old suspect accused of killing two individuals, including a Citadel Military College cadet, in a double homicide investigation. The teen faces two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18, whose bodies were discovered in a vacant lot in downtown DeLand.
Surveillance footage captured the two victims walking together on a sidewalk around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, according to police records. The following day, both men were found dead in the abandoned lot, triggering a full-scale law enforcement response.
Rose, a South Carolina Army National Guard member, had been on break from his military studies at The Citadel when he was killed. He had long aspired to serve in the armed forces and recently completed his enrollment with the state guard unit.
Authorities have classified the suspect as “armed and dangerous” and instructed the public to contact 911 immediately rather than attempt any interaction. Under Florida law, the teenager could potentially face prosecution as an adult, a determination prosecutors will make based on the severity of the charges.
