Jennifer Lackard, a deputy police commissioner with the Mount Vernon Police Department, was arrested Tuesday morning at her home alongside her son, Chase Lackard, 20, according to police sources cited by the New York Post. Authorities allege that Chase fired shots at rival gang members near Bronx Criminal Court in late June, after which he fled to his mother’s vehicle and she drove away from the scene. No injuries resulted from the shooting.
Both mother and son face multiple charges including attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a firearm, conspiracy, and reckless endangerment. The Mount Vernon Police Department announced Lackard’s immediate termination Tuesday, stating that the allegations bore no connection to her official duties or departmental conduct.
Chase Lackard’s arrest marks another chapter in a pattern of violent encounters. Police shot him in 2024 after he allegedly brandished a firearm during an argument, and he was previously shot in the chest in 2023 by three youths during a bus dispute. According to the Post, Chase is an alleged member of the “Slutty Gang” and was reportedly shot after demanding gang affiliation information from other bus passengers and attempting to force one of them off the vehicle.
