Intense rainfall swept across South Florida on Monday afternoon, inundating several flood-prone communities throughout Broward County. The deluge submerged roadways in Hollywood and surrounding areas, compounding afternoon traffic congestion as residents navigated waterlogged streets during peak commute hours.
Local officials deployed crews to assess water conditions near Dewey Street and South 14th Avenue in Hollywood, where reporters captured images of the rising water levels. The South Lakes neighborhood has established itself as a particularly vulnerable area, with flooding recurring regularly enough to frustrate long-term residents who have witnessed the pattern intensify over time.
Rich Digirolamo, a resident who walked through the affected area with his dog Jessie after conditions subsided, expressed frustration about the worsening situation. He noted that the flooding has become more severe since he first moved to the neighborhood, and questioned what remedial steps, if any, local authorities plan to implement to address the persistent drainage problem.
