The financial institution Capital One disclosed in a regulatory filing that it terminated hundreds of accounts belonging to President Trump and entities under his control during 2021. The bank cited anti-money laundering regulations as the reason for the account closures, according to the company’s official documentation.
The action represented one of several instances in which major financial institutions have restricted or ended relationships with Trump-related accounts following the January 2021 Capitol riot. Capital One’s decision reflected heightened scrutiny of banking relationships involving the former president across the sector.
