Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos released a video statement Saturday addressing the recent disclosure of two suspected ransom notes connected to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance from her Tucson residence. The 84-year-old vanished six months ago, prompting an ongoing investigation that authorities hope will gain momentum through public scrutiny of the documents.
Nanos explained that investigators are banking on the possibility that distinctive language patterns or writing style visible in the notes might prompt recognition from members of the public. “There are a number of pieces of information in these notes that just might jar someone to say, ‘You know, I’ve heard that,’ or the wording, the style of the writing,” the sheriff stated in the recorded remarks.
Authorities have not yet determined whether both purported ransom notes originated from the same individual. The investigation has expanded considerably, with law enforcement actively sifting through tens of thousands of tips, video footage, and forensic evidence as the search for Guthrie continues. Guthrie is the mother of NBC “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie.
