Delaware County authorities are pursuing an armed suspect who fired a weapon inside a Walmart store in Darby Township, Pennsylvania on Friday night, wounding a bystander employee. The incident unfolded shortly after 7 p.m. at the retailer’s McDade Boulevard location when gunshots rang out, prompting an immediate police response to the scene.
A dispute between two men near the self-checkout section escalated when one individual drew a gun and fired, striking a female employee who was not party to the altercation, according to Darby Township Police Chief Michael Sousa. The woman sustained a leg wound from the gunshot and received transport to a hospital for medical care.
The gunman fled the building before officers arrived on scene. Sousa did not provide details about the victim’s current condition or severity of injuries at the time of the initial statement.
Police have secured both the Walmart and adjacent commercial properties, confirming no present danger to the broader community. Investigators are analyzing store security footage to identify and apprehend the suspect, with the case remaining under active investigation.
