Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason has filed court documents seeking a domestic violence restraining order against 32-year-old Marilyn Maritza Melo Rodriguez. The petition alleges physical assault, destruction of property worth approximately $92,000 and threats against the player’s life, according to filings reviewed by multiple outlets.
The complaint details an alleged incident in which Eason drove Rodriguez to her mother’s residence at her family’s request. Eason contends that upon arrival, a confrontation ensued during which Rodriguez struck him in the face with a closed fist, causing injury.
Eason further alleges that Rodriguez subsequently traveled to his Airbnb accommodation and doused his designer clothing collection with bleach, resulting in approximately $92,000 in damages. The filing characterizes the garments as particularly valued pieces in his wardrobe.
The restraining order petition also includes an account of a threatening phone call Eason received from someone associated with Rodriguez. According to the filing, the caller communicated threats that Rodriguez would “break both of my legs” and “kill me,” leading Eason to report fear for his personal safety.
Eason is requesting judicial intervention to mandate that Rodriguez maintain distance from him, his residence, vehicles, workplace and any California arena where the Rockets compete. The 25-year-old was selected 17th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft and is entering his fifth professional season with Houston.
Over his NBA career, Eason has averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. The allegations have not yet been adjudicated in court and remain unproven.
