Actor George Clooney and Wife Amal Evacuate French Estate as Mediterranean Wildfires Intensify

George Clooney and his wife Amal have left their residence in Brignoles, a town in France’s Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, along with their 9-year-old twins as wildfires threaten the Mediterranean area. A spokesperson for the actor confirmed the departure and disclosed that the couple sent a letter to local Mayor Didier Brémond prior to evacuating.

In their correspondence to the mayor, the Clooneys expressed uncertainty about whether their property would survive the crisis while emphasizing their commitment to the community. “As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and i are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole,” the letter stated.

The evacuation reflects an escalating wildfire situation across southern Europe. As of Wednesday, a massive uncontained blaze roughly four times the size of Paris was consuming southwestern France, separate from the fire threatening the Brignoles area where approximately 3,000 residents were ordered to leave.

The fire crisis has claimed lives and displaced hundreds of thousands. Three firefighters died in Greece battling the blazes amid extreme heat and drought conditions, while more than 300,000 people have been forced to evacuate across France and Spain, including both residents and tourists.

Clooney has previously explained his decision to raise his family on a French farm rather than in Los Angeles. In an October 2025 Esquire interview, he noted that the rural setting keeps his children away from Hollywood culture and paparazzi attention, allowing them a more grounded upbringing.
