The New York Yankees finished off a three-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night, defeating the hosts 6-1 at Camden Yards. Gerrit Cole delivered a commanding performance on the mound, allowing just four hits and one walk while recording eight strikeouts over six innings to improve to 7-6 on the season.
Cole’s outing was supported by the Yankees’ bats, as Luis García Jr. and Spencer Jones each contributed solo home runs. The offensive surge, combined with two unearned runs scored in the third inning, proved more than enough to secure the victory and maintain New York’s pursuit of AL East leader Tampa Bay, now sitting four games back.
Baltimore’s only run came courtesy of Dylan Beavers’ fifth-inning solo shot. The Orioles’ defense faltered in the third when shortstop Gunnar Henderson committed an error that allowed multiple runners to reach safely, setting the stage for the Yankees’ early offensive onslaught. Kyle Bradish (7-12) absorbed the loss after surrendering three earned runs and eight hits across 5⅔ innings.
Ryan Yarbrough entered in relief and pitched three perfect innings to secure his third save of the season. The loss marked Baltimore’s fourth consecutive defeat following a brief stint atop the AL wild card standings. Jazz Chisholm Jr. added an eighth-inning triple that scored an additional run for New York.
Cole’s strikeout total moved him ahead of Roger Clemens into 12th place on the Yankees’ all-time strikeout list with 1,015. The Yankees return home Friday to face Toronto, with Cam Schlittler (10-6) scheduled to start, while Baltimore hosts Tampa Bay with Trevor Rogers (8-8) taking the ball for the Orioles.
