The U.S. Central Command announced Saturday that hostile action during Iranian strikes on a Jordanian installation claimed the lives of two American military personnel. The assault, which occurred on July 17, involved both ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial systems targeting the compound where U.S. and allied forces were stationed.
In addition to those killed in the attack, one service member remains unaccounted for, according to CENTCOM’s statement released on social media. Four other American personnel required medical attention and were transported to local medical facilities before being released, while additional troops who sustained minor injuries have resumed their normal duties.
Military officials declined to release further details regarding the incident, citing the need to notify relatives of the deceased personnel before making public disclosures. The standard 24-hour waiting period following family notification will be observed before identities are revealed, CENTCOM said.
The incident represents an escalation of regional tensions involving Iranian military forces operating in the Middle East. Additional information about the circumstances surrounding the attack is expected to emerge as the situation develops.
