Trump Endorses Graham Nordone for Full South Carolina Senate Seat

Former President Donald Trump announced Friday his full backing of South Carolina interim senator Darline Graham Nordone in her likely bid for a full term, posting his endorsement on Truth Social. Trump pledged his “Complete and Total Endorsement” should she enter the Republican primary scheduled for next month.

Governor Henry McMaster appointed Graham Nordone to the Senate seat following the death of her brother, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham. She will hold the position through January 2027, when the new Congress begins, with a special Republican primary election set for August 11, 2026, to determine the nominee for the full six-year term.

In his endorsement, Trump lavished praise on Graham Nordone as a “spectacular person, and a true American Patriot,” while acknowledging her brother’s decades of distinguished Senate service. He suggested she possesses the same commitment to South Carolina and the nation that defined Lindsey Graham’s career.

Trump framed a potential campaign as honoring her brother’s legacy, noting she comes from “an absolutely incredible family” and has “been a WINNER all of her life.” The former president’s backing provides a significant boost as she considers entering the crowded primary field.

Graham Nordone holds the distinction of being South Carolina’s first female senator. She is also the first woman appointed to the Senate as the sibling of a sitting senator, marking another historic first for the state.

Sources familiar with her plans told The Associated Press that Graham Nordone is actively developing a campaign strategy for the race. She received her appointment Monday and took the oath of office the following day.

Candidate filing opens July 21 and closes July 28. Other Republicans expressing interest in the primary include Representatives Russell Fry, Nancy Mace, and Ralph Norman, as well as Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, according to AP reporting.
