A 79-year-old resident of an East Flatbush block died after being struck by a car while on the sidewalk, according to law enforcement officials at the scene.
The woman was a well-known presence in her community, with deep ties to a local congregation where she had volunteered at its food distribution program for an extended period.
Authorities noted that she had lived in the neighborhood for years and was regarded as a dedicated member of the parish community.
