High school football has officially returned across the nation, marking the beginning of the 2026 season. The renewed pageantry and excitement surrounding the sport’s kickoff signals the start of the fall athletics calendar, with college football set to begin next week and the NFL following two weeks later.

Marshall Manning, the freshman quarterback son of former NFL star Peyton Manning, made his debut Thursday night for Baylor School, a private college preparatory institution in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The game aired on ESPN2 and drew immediate attention on social media due to Manning’s high-profile family name and the considerable expectations surrounding his entry into competitive football.

Despite the focus on Manning’s inaugural appearance, running back David Gabriel Georges emerged as the night’s standout performer. The 6-foot, 210-pound senior and 5-star Tennessee commit accumulated 250 total yards and three touchdowns while repeatedly evading first-contact tackles, displaying the kind of physical dominance that has generated comparisons to NFL veteran Derrick Henry.

Manning’s brief appearance included a completion to receiver Cornbread Adams on his first career pass attempt. While the freshman quarterback is expected to see limited playing time as he develops, his arrival continues the family legacy established by his grandfather and uncle, though such prominence brings significant pressure at an early age.
